2019 Special Olympics/Unified Soccer Program
MRFC is in the process of expanding its Special Olympics program by forming additional teams in Orting, Enumclaw, Bonney Lake, and Sumner. MRFC is on the forefront of growing the Special Olympics/Unified Soccer Program within the MRFC Community and surrounding areas. Our focus is to not only continue our successes, but to also enhance the experience by providing more frequent opportunities for teams to come together to compete locally.
Players Needed - Unified Athletes & Unified Partners (Ages: 8-15)
Special Olympics is dedicated to promoting social inclusion through shared sports training and competition experiences. Unified Sports joins Unified Athletes (with intellectual disabilities) and Unified Partners (without intellectual disabilities) on the same team. It was inspired by a simple principle: training together and playing together is a quick path to friendship and understanding.
In Unified Sports, teams are made up of people of similar age and ability. That makes practices more fun and games more challenging and exciting for all. Having sport in common is just one more way that preconceptions and false ideas are swept away.
Adult Coaches Needed
Whether you’re new to coaching or new to working with people with intellectual disabilities, you will discover that coaching a Unified Sports team is unlike any other experience you’ve ever had. While the challenges may be similar – you will be defining roles in line with ability and fostering teamwork – the goals, motivations and even the meaning of winning are different.
MRFC will provide support/direction, equipment, and fields to ensure a smooth, enjoyable, and fulfilling experience.
